Scottish Indoor Rowing Championship

Postby Davie on Sun Jan 27, 2008 4:25 pm

So I got an email yesterday from Concept 2, and it turns out that the Scottish Indoor Rowing Championship is in 2 weeks in Edinburgh.

Checking out the times from last year and my current time for 2,000m, I am going to enter it tomorrow. My time would have got me a top 20 place.

I dont plan on doing much specific race training as it is too close but I will be doing a couple of 2,000m rows this week.

Saturday

At the Scottish Indoor Rowing Championship today, in Edinburgh. I entered the Mens 30+ Heavyweight 1,000m and the Mens Heavyweight Open 2,000m.

We got there early to register and watched a few of the early races - kids 2min races and some of the team events.

My first race was the 1,000m. My PB for this distance was 3min 17sec before today so I had planed on rowing a 1min 38 split and if I had anything left at the last 250m I would try and kick it.

(thats me in the middle with the big hair and manly stubble)

Got on the rower and had a wee warm up just before the race started and found that the rower was a lot easier to row on that the ones we have in the gym.

My split for the first 500m was 1min 35sec and for the final 500m it dropped to 1min 32sec giving me a new PB of 3mins 7 sec

When I got my breath back I had a bout 2 hours till my next race. I had planned on going for a 1min 45 split for the first 1,500m of this race but after the first race I though I could get a better time. I dont know what my split times were on this one as we left before they were posted.

However, I managed to get a time of 6min 49 secs which is a PB by 5secs and the first time I have been under 6mins and 50secs

I had a great day and I will definetley be entering this again next year. Will be posting some video up later when I get the footage from Brians camera

Big thanks to Jackie and Cameron, Brian and Julie and Malky a Wee Julie for coming along to cheer me on!
